Write about the idea of narrative art: how does one tell a whole story with just one image?

So far we have seen damnatio memoriae, the intentional erasing of individuals from history (usually for political reasons), as well as spolia (practical reuse). Now we have iconoclasm, the intential desctruction of images on the grounds that images are not good, morally or religiously. What do you think about it? Do you have strong emotions, about some examples, but not others? Is there a good reason to destroy art? What if it is very old and historical? What if it was made last week? Does intent matter (the artists meant to be respectful, or meant to be mean?) Please discuss as much or a little as you want.
If you do not want to share your opinion and beliefs with me, that is fine. Instead, you can write about the idea of narrative art: how does one tell a whole story with just one image? How do you portray movement, or speech, or events, with static 2D or 3D images?
