In about 1-2 single-spaced pages, using the readings and assessments of Module 2, let me know a little bit more about you, especially those areas within the COLLABORATE imperative that you think are deserving of your attention on your path to becoming a Level 5 manager, namely:
understanding self and others;
communicating honestly and effectively;
managing groups and leading teams; and
managing and encouraging constructive conflict.
At its best, teamwork leads to accomplishments that the individual alone cannot duplicate on their own–due to the power of people really listening to each other in order to gain perspective, to share insights, and to craft creative solutions.
At its worst, teamwork is forced, terribly inefficient, and frustrating–all leading to a mediocre end product. We ve all been there, right?
As you embark on your Action Learning Project (or another team project at school or work, consider:
–What collaboration skills/competencies do you need to enhance?
–What do you see in others that you wish you had within your managerial skill set?
–Do you have the skills to deal with teammates when they may be exhibiting poor collaboration skills, thereby undermining the overall team effort? Perhaps give me an example of when you should have stepped in, but did not.
–How are you going to remedy that shortcoming in the near future? If it possibly happens in your own ALP team?
