The COVID-19 pandemic has been a phenomenon that has affected every single corner of the world in all aspect including political, social, and economic. It is no secret that one of the most awaited things for this past year has been the vaccine. International companies such as Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca after months and months of trying were able to finally release to society a vaccine that could provide not immunity completely but at least protection to the maximum level it is able to. Of course with the rush of everyone to get back to what used to be seen as a normal life all the countries around the world have been buying as many vaccines as they can from the different producers to be able to provider their citizen with their biggest desire which is the opportunity to go back to normality.
As it is known by everyone one of the countries with the biggest number of vaccines fabricated China and even though their vaccine is not the most popular one on the western side of the world in countries such as the United Araba Emirates it has become very popular and even the one used by the majority of the population since other vaccines such as the Pfizer one have become harder to get access to. China being a global superpower it is no secret that of course they are able to get control over smaller countries or even blackmail them on some way to actually get what they want which is to take control over Taiwan.
Taiwan is not seen as a complete independent county and its just recognized by 14 countries on total because at it is known to be a province of china. Of course, those countries that recognize Taiwan as its own country do not have relations with China. For example, a couple of years ago Panama was one of the countries that recognized Taiwan as its own but after the president decides to establish relationships with China Panama gave its recognition to China.
As I mentioned in the beginning the pandemic has brought with it a bunch of problems and many of them political and economic. Even though the vaccines are a necessity they are also a huge business from which people and even countries around the world are profiting from. Less than a month ago for example Paraguay was having issues with obtaining the vaccine and China being one of the producers they went to them to buy but of course China saw this as an opportunity to make thing happen the way they want them to and told Paraguay than in order for them to get the vaccine they had to stop recognizing Taiwan as its own independent country. Paraguay didn’t agree and they ended up getting vaccines donates by different countries such a Qatar and India.
This same situation that happened to Paraguay is what had been happening to Taiwan on its own. As any other country Taiwan bought millions of vaccines which were needed for its population to get protected but China intervened by not permitting Taiwan to get the vaccines. They tried to gain control over the country by trying to manipulate other countries offer of vaccines to Taiwan by offering more money or trying to prohibit their agreements with countries such as the UK.
